I have never used an eReader before but have always thought how great it would be to hold several books all in one spot. With my Fibromyalgia, it seems like every other day I am in a doctor’s office. It can get pretty boring sitting in waiting rooms and of course, off to lab, waiting on results and so forth. Being able to have some extra entertainment is nice.

The Literati eReader from The Sharper Image offers a 7″ color LCD screen with Kobo Bookstore access to over 2 million titles. I was very excited to check out an eReader knowing it would come in handy. Those of those that received a Literati through this blog tour knew the Literati was going to be taken out of packaging beforehand to install some updates and so forth. After letting it charge up for six hours, I did have to reset it a few times to get it working so I could learn to navigate.

I of course, choose Breaking Dawn from the Twilight Saga as a book to download as I’ve never actually read any of the series. By connecting to WiFi, your reader gains access to the Kobo Bookstore, a global eReading service giving readers instant access to download over 2 million eBook titles. The Sharper Image Literati eReader 3

When you have kids, you are constantly getting up so I would close my eReader and when I turned back on, it would be at my page. If you close completely out, you can find your current book under the “I’m Reading” tab of your eReader options.I have loved being able to sit back and read when I have the chance or while I am sitting in a doctor’s office. I can read what I want and not worry about trying to find a magazine that actually interests me.

There have been some downsides to the Literati that I want to touch base on as well. The first eReader I received, was since believed to be faulty based on a “special software” install that was made prior to my receiving. When I did an update of the eReader, my downloaded books had disappeared. I received a second eReader unopened and I’ve done several updates without that issue at this time.

Issues with the Literati you as a purchaser would receive from a store-

  • The keys can be picky at times and the page flipping buttons can flip fast or I’ve had to use the arrows on the keyboard to flip pages. Usually this corrects itself by the next time I turn the Literati on.
  • Updates are “forced” when they are available. This can take a few moments out of your time to let it go through the steps it needs to go through to complete an update. The updates come when connecting to Wi-Fi. This can be a pain when you might be in a hurry to download a book and get on your way.

Overall, I would say my experience with the Literati is average. Like I said, this is my first experience with an eReader so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I do enjoy having the ability to read on the go, it just comes with any form of technology, there’s always “bugs” to work out 😉
